Hey there!
Just wanted to drop a quick note about an interesting cultural tidbit.
Ever wonder why some Chinese say "元旦快乐Yuándàn kuàilè" instead of "Happy New Year 新年快乐Xīnnián kuàilè"?
元旦 (Yuándàn) refers to the first day of the year according to the Gregorian calendar which, as you know, has been adopted worldwide. It's really about marking the start of the year on January 1st.
"元旦快乐Yuándàn kuàilè" is another way of saying "Happy New Year" in authentic Chinese.
So, when we wish someone "元旦快乐Yuándàn kuàilè ", we're celebrating the secular, global new year, which is different from the traditional Lunar New Year celebration, which is much more widespread in Chinese traditions and has different greetings.
